Dean of Students January Update

Hello EMS Parents and Families,

I want you to know how grateful I am for our students, families, our teachers, and all of our staff. Our students are successful because of the support they receive from our teachers and staff, and especially because of the support of their families. I appreciate all you do to support the many successes of our students.

As you know, each Tuesday and Thursday during Pride Time, our students work on lessons from the 7 Mindsets curriculum, which helps our students explore the mindsets of highly effective people. While going through the Attitude of Gratitude in January, some classes took the time to write cards to people in their lives that have made an impact on them, other students wrote positive letters to themselves, and many students took advantage of the gratitude slips that were around the building to pass these out to community members who brighten their day. In addition, Mrs. Fenster had her class make inspirational posters from quotes. All of these were part of the lessons students participated in as they learned about expressing their gratitude. We have a bulletin board displayed to help remind students to treasure themselves, to be grateful, and to thank it forward.

As we move forward into the month of February, our next mindset is Live To Give. Four critical components encompass this mindset, including stretching oneself to give and be our best because it is the right thing to do. Another piece of this mindset is learning to live our best life each day and make a difference to those around us, which helps us to be happier in our own lives. The last two elements are receiving gracefully and leaving a legacy. As our Pride Time classes are discussing this mindset and the components that are a part of it, they will be challenged throughout the month to be giving back to those around them. As parents, we value your partnership in educating your student. The 7 Mindsets curriculum has wonderful ideas you can use at home as well so that you can continue the conversation as home. Click here for more information. This month, Monday, February 17th is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. This would be a wonderful time to put into action what your child has been learning. During the past week, we have been taking the time to reflect on our practices and evaluate what our staff and students are experiencing with the 7 Mindsets curriculum. As parents and guardians, your input is important to us and we value your feedback. If you have a moment, please take a few minutes to complete the following survey by clicking here.
