Update From the Dean

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

Here at Erie Middle School, we empower all students to achieve academic growth, become lifelong learners, positive global contributors and future leaders. We truly have the best students and staff here and enjoy collaborating with you to support our students. This has been an amazing first half of the year. Through the emphasis and application of positive behavior supports, as well as teaching and re-teaching expectations, our students continue to exceed the behavior expectations we have put into place. We also strive to put a spotlight on the behaviors we want to see, and we work to reward and reinforce those behaviors with a variety of school-wide initiatives. We use ROARS coupons that students can then use in our ROARS store. Teachers and staff nominate students monthly for the Above and Beyond Award. Additionally, we have our Eye of the Tiger Award, which is given to students by teacher nominations; our school resource officer (SRO) does a quarterly lunch for her SRO award. Finally, each quarter we have our Spotlight on Excellence Award. The result has been a continued decline in behavior incidents and a positive culture and climate where students feel safe and enjoy being at school.

Our students are amazing and continue to impress us on a daily basis, yet there are times when a student may need guidance to refocus during a class. In addition to the supports mentioned above, our teachers have developed a common refocus form to support students as needed. Teachers have used a variety of forms similar to this in the past, but having a common form throughout the school will help students understand the process and provide clear communication with our families at home. As always, we appreciate your partnership in your child’s education and character development. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education.
