Vice Principal Laufenberg’s September 2019 Update

Hello EMS Parents and Families,

Thank you for partnering with us in education as we strive for higher levels of excellence this school year. We are pleased when our students succeed in the classroom. Most recently we increased almost ten percentile points on the School Performance Framework and again earned a rating of “Performance” from the Colorado Department of Education (the highest level of accreditation). In addition to academic success, we are impressed with the kindness and empathy of our students. Our students’ concern for each other is seen not just in the hallway in their everyday interactions, but through their notification to staff and adults about concerns so that we as a school can support students as needed.

One of our top priorities is the safety and security of our students, teachers, and staff. To achieve this, we partner with our district in putting specific systems in place, known as the standard response protocol (SRP), for a variety of situations. The SRP provides instructions for students and teachers for drills that are practiced and taught periodically during the school year.

To further ensure the safety of our building, the school is equipped with double locking vestibule doors and a camera entry system for the front doors. Moreover, a school resource officer (SRO) from the Erie Police Department is on campus everyday. An additional resource is Safe2Tell, an anonymous avenue for students and community members to report concerns that will notify Erie PD as well as school administration.

I appreciate the honor of collaborating with you and working with your students, and should you have any questions as the year progresses, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully,

Jason Laufenberg
