Tiger News
February 28, 2025

Hello Tiger Families,

I’d like to take a moment to share some news that will change our leadership team for next year. After 4 years at EMS as Dean of Students (and 25 years in education!), Mr. Tomasek will be retiring at the end of this school year. We wish Mr. Tomasek all the best in his new adventures!

We will be working with our district leadership team as we look to begin the process of finding a new Tiger to join our administrative team.

Sincerely,

WEB 2025-2026 Flyer – Erie Middle School

The flyer has a bold title at the top: "WEB 2025-2026" with a logo underneath that says "LIVE – Thinking Like a Leader."

What Is WEB?
WEB is an orientation program designed to help 6th graders transition into Erie Middle School. 8th-grade students, known as WEB Leaders, mentor small groups of 6th graders throughout the school year. Leaders share their experiences, provide guidance, and help younger students adjust to middle school life.

Why Would You Become a WEB Leader?
The school needs student leaders to take an active role in the community. Being a WEB Leader is an opportunity to make a difference while having fun and developing leadership skills.

What Is the Commitment?
Selected WEB Leaders must attend mandatory events, starting with an interactive day to meet other leaders, followed by training sessions, orientation for 6th graders, and regular check-ins throughout the school year. The goal is to ensure 6th graders feel supported and connected.

The flyer includes a background image of students in bright pink shirts and a small circular image of two girls sitting together, smiling, and wearing fun glasses. The school’s name, Erie Middle School, appears in the top right corner. The design features orange and black text with bold headings for each section.

St. Vrain Valley Schools is proud to host the state robotics tournaments across three different weekends. This commitment to robotics is unbelievable and we appreciate Trail Ridge Middle School, Altona Middle School and Erie HighSchool for being the host schools of the tournaments.

We are especially happy to recognize that both the student robotics leadership team and the student drone performance team are working together to create the best possible experience for everyone. The robotics leadership team has worked all season hosting tournaments across the district and now are able to share their expertise at the state tournaments. The drone performance team has created custom drone animations specifically designed to celebrate the world of robotics. Their collaboration and dedication are truly commendable.

As we celebrate our district-wide robotics program, we want to extend a special invitation to all school communities to enjoy these spectacular drone shows. It’s a truly unique and inspiring performance you won’t want to miss!

Needs Assessment Process

Did you know that Erie Middle uses a data-based approach to support student mental health at school? Twice per year, all students complete a confidential survey where they identify if they would like additional support from a school counselor or if they would like to be a part of a support group. Support groups are short term (4-6 weeks) small groups that meet once per week during Advisory. These groups create a structured setting in which students learn and discuss new skills about topics such as managing stress, navigating friendship issues, and gaining more confidence. The groups and surveys are facilitated by our Mental Health Interventionist, Ben Knighten. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to him at [email protected].

For the safety of your student, please do not drop off or pick up your student on Main Street. Dropping off and picking up on Main Street also causes traffic build up. We have a drop off lane on the North side of the school off of Cheeseman Street. Please see the photo below for our drop off procedures.

Please DO NOT ENTER the bus pick up lane in front of the school between 7:40am – 8:10am and 2:40pm – 3:15pm. The teacher parking lot is also not a drop off or pick up spot for your student.

This image is an overhead, satellite-style view of a school or public area with a marked "Kiss and Go Lane" for vehicles. Several key traffic instructions are overlaid on the image in bold yellow and red text with directional arrows, as follows:

Top of the image: The street running horizontally across the top of the image has two labeled instructions:

On the left side, a yellow arrow points to the left, and the red text in a yellow box reads "No left turn."
On the right side, a yellow arrow points to the right, and the red text in a yellow box reads "Right turn only."
Center of the image: The main Kiss and Go Lane is shown with a series of yellow arrows curving through a parking area. These arrows indicate the flow of traffic, leading vehicles through the designated drop-off zone. There is a red star near the middle of the turn to indicate a particular point of interest (likely a drop-off point).

Bottom of the image: At the bottom, a bold yellow message in red text reads, "PLEASE PULL AS FAR FORWARD AS POSSIBLE." This likely instructs drivers to continue moving forward to maximize space and efficiency in the drop-off area.

Overall, the image uses yellow arrows to guide drivers through the designated lane, with key traffic rules (no left turn, right turn only, pull forward) displayed prominently in red text on yellow backgrounds.

At the top of the image, large bold text reads "STUDENT FEES." Below the text is an illustration of an open book. On top of the book, there are three stacks of coins, each showing a dollar sign ($) to symbolize money. Surrounding the coins are two large pencils, one on each side of the book, along with small, decorative leaves. The overall color scheme uses shades of blue and teal, giving the image a clean and modern look.

Thank you for everything you do to communicate regarding your child’s absences. We have a lot of traffic in and out of our main office during the school day so we have procedure in place to be more efficient and smooth for our students and families.

We strongly encourage you to fill out this google form ahead of time to expedite the pick up process. This not only helps the front office staff, but helps you get in and out quickly.  We make every effort to call your student up to the office 5 minutes before the time you put on the form so they are ready to go when you get to school. If you arrive before your student makes it up to the front office, we will have you wait for them in the first lobby.

When a student is coming into school late, you can sign them in ahead of time OR they can sign themselves in when they come into the office.  You can drop them off, make sure they get in the front doors, and we will take it from there. When dropping off your student, there is no need for you to come into the front office with your child.

We understand that sometimes you will not be able to sign your student out until you arrive at the school. In this case, we have posted a QR code in the first lobby and have added chairs for your convenience.  Please remember to bring your ID each time you pick up your student.  If an ID check is needed, we will have you step into the front office. After that ID check we will have you wait for your student in the first lobby. We will have them meet you there as they come through the front office.

We have many times that the person picking up doesn’t know our procedures. Please share this information with your spouse, significant other, grandparents, siblings or anyone else that may be picking up your student.

As a reminder, always get a note from any type of appointment your student has for attendance purposes.

If your student is absent for a full day, you have 48 hours to call in with the reason for the absence, after that it will be marked unexcused. Per board policy, if a student is absent 10 days excused or not, absences will begin to be marked “unexcused” unless previously noted and approved by school administration or there is a doctor’s note provided to the school.

Extended Absences: Please notify the school at least 2 weeks prior to any extended absences via our Google form. You and your student will also need to sign off on our “Extended Absence Form” located in our front office. This form helps students and parents understand how to communicate with teachers and make up schoolwork after the absence.
