Erie Middle School Upcoming Events for 8th Graders

(emailed to 8th grade families on May 2nd)

Hello 8th Grade Parents and Students,

It’s hard to believe that it is already May 2nd, and we only have 16 school days left! Whaaatttt?!?! The month of May has many upcoming fun activities that are designed to recognize all of the hard work that students have put in this year and in middle school.  Below you will find a list of the upcoming school wide activities and dates, and you may receive other communications from any of the specialized programs your student(s) participated in this year.

As a reminder, these activities are a reward to students.  Any student who engages in inappropriate behavior, requiring disciplinary action, may lose the privilege of attending any or all of these activities. We hope to have a fun and safe experience for all students for the remainder of the year.

Upcoming events/activities:

Beach Bash, May 17th, 3:15 – 5:15 PM

This is a FREE event for 8th grade students! There will be inflatables, food, Kona ice, music…and the debut of our new gaga ball pit! This event is sponsored by our AMAZING PTO, and we are so excited that students won’t need to bring money for the games, activities and food. We NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS to help. Click here to sign up! Want to donate some money to PTO to help cover the cost of this event? Click here! We have some fun special things planned this year…included gaga ball and some specialized treats!

8th Grade Continuation & Awards Ceremony, May 22nd, 6:00 – 8:00 PM, EMS Large Gym

Our Continuation Ceremony is BACK for the second year! This is a night to celebrate our 8th grade students! This is a formal event, and we encourage students to dress up for the occasion (slacks and a nice shirt or skirt/dress). Our program will include student and staff speeches, awards, and the presentation of Certificates of Continuation. After the ceremony, we will have a cookie reception in the Cafeteria with an opportunity for photos. Students should arrive at 5:40 PM to get lined up and ready and families can head to the Large Gym to find seats. Note: we will rehearse our continuation ceremony on Wednesday afternoon so 8th grade students will know all the details!

8th Grade Breakfast and Slideshow, May 23rd, 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

This event is for students only and is an opportunity for students to connect and relax in the morning of their last day of school. Each Period 1 teacher will be communicating some info with students regarding the potluck-style breakfast. Once students are done eating, we will be showing our end of the year slideshow in the cafeteria.

8th Grade Final Lap, May 23rd, 2:30 – 3:00 PM

Parents and families, we invite you to join us to celebrate an 8th grade “final lap” as they head off to high school. You are welcome to come to EMS starting at 2:15 to line the track to cheer for our students as they take their final lap. Students will begin their lap at 2:45 PM and are free to leave after the event. If you are unable to attend the event and would like to make a sign to be hung on the fence, please drop your sign off in the main office by 3:30 PM the previous day (May 22nd).

Thank you!
