Tiger News
EMS Website: EMS.SVVSD.org

Hello Erie Families,
What a FANTASTIC week we’ve had! I think it may be our strongest and smoothest start yet!
As I visited classrooms this week, I was overwhelmed by the care that our teachers put into getting to know students right away…AND how ready our students have been to engage in their learning. Lots of smiles, raised hands to participate, and collaboration with peers. Absolutely amazing to see!
We are officially the biggest middle school in SVVSD, but that is not stopping us from remembering that community and connection are at the core of everything we do in Erie.
Next week is iReady testing on Monday and Tuesday, and we are excited to get a great start on learning how to best meet our students’ needs.

To find what you’re looking for everything is grouped by where the info comes from!
Here’s the new lineup:
Erie Middle School – All the latest happenings from right here at EMS!
Erie High School – Info for our future Tigers (and their families)!
St. Vrain & Friends – News from the district and other nearby schools.
Recent News – Cool stuff you might’ve missed!
Each section is clearly labeled, so you can scroll right to what you need—no treasure map required!
Happy reading!

Wearing hoods is not allowed in the building. From the Health Office
Immunizations, Meds and Health Plans | Important Immunization |
Now is a great time to make certain that your student’s vaccination and immunization forms are up-to-date. You can also drop off any necessary emergency/daily medications for your student, with the required accompanying paperwork, to the main office Monday – Friday, from 8 am to 3:30 pm. If you have any questions about health related needs for your student, please contact our Health Clerk, Wendy Osborn ([email protected]). | The State of Colorado requires students to get the TDAP immunization between the ages of 11 and 12. This immunization tends to significantly impact our compliance as a school. If your student has recently turned 11, please make an appointment to get this immunization. |
Attendance
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow

Thank you for everything you do to communicate regarding your child’s absences. We have a lot of traffic in and out of our main office during the school day so we have procedure in place to be more efficient and smooth for our students and families.
PICK UP
We strongly encourage you to fill out this google form ahead of time to expedite the pick up process. This not only helps the front office staff, but helps you get in and out quickly. We make every effort to call your student up to the office 5 minutes before the time you put on the form so they are ready to go when you get to school. If you arrive before your student makes it up to the front office, we will have you wait for them in the first lobby.
DROP OFF
When a student is coming into school late, you can sign them in ahead of time OR they can sign themselves in when they come into the office. You can drop them off, make sure they get in the front doors, and we will take it from there. When dropping off your student, there is no need for you to come into the front office with your child.
We understand that sometimes you will not be able to sign your student out until you arrive at the school. In this case, we have posted a QR code in the first lobby and have added chairs for your convenience. Please remember to bring your ID each time you pick up your student. If an ID check is needed, we will have you step into the front office. After that ID check we will have you wait for your student in the first lobby. We will have them meet you there as they come through the front office.
We have many times that the person picking up doesn’t know our procedures. Please share this information with your spouse, significant other, grandparents, siblings or anyone else that may be picking up your student.
As a reminder, always get a note from any type of appointment your student has for attendance purposes.
If your student is absent for a full day, you have 24 hours to call in with the reason for the absence, after that it will be marked unexcused. Per board policy, if a student is absent 10 days excused or not, absences will begin to be marked “unexcused” unless previously noted and approved by school administration or there is a doctor’s note provided to the school.
Extended Absences
Extended Absences: Please notify the school at least 2 weeks prior to any extended absences via our Google form. You and your student will also need to sign off on our “Extended Absence Form” located in our front office. This form helps students and parents understand how to communicate with teachers and make up schoolwork after the absence.
Lunch
We eat lunch by grade level and have outside time whenever possible. Students will START outside during our lunch time and then we will bring everyone in to eat together. This year, there will be no cost for lunch. However, students will still need to enter their student number as we will track how many lunches we serve each day. We have microwaves available for students to use, and students are always welcome to bring their own lunch.
Clubs and Intramurals
Engaged students are successful students! We offer a variety of clubs and intramural sports. Most of these will begin in the early part of the school year and information will be shared in the morning announcements and in our Friday newsletters.
Girls volleyball and Cross Country will be the first sports of the year. Registration is online and begins August 7th. Volleyball practice begins the week of August 18th and XC begins the week of August 25th.
