Mr. Duhon showed up as Gru!
Mr. Duhon made our Advisory chants more exciting by dressing up as Gru. His advisory class chose the mascot of The Minions…so of course they needed a fearless leader.

Hello Tiger Families!

We had an AMAZING week at EMS this week. Our students participated in our first Challenge Days and EIGHTH GRADERS WON, and they will earn points towards the Tiger Showdown.

The purpose of Challenge Days is to build connection and a sense of community. Be sure to ask your students about the Challenge Day shenanigans that included Hippity Hoppity balls and shooting paper wads into a trash can 🙂

Be sure to check out all the info below so you are in the loop on all the upcoming events at EMS!

"Colorado State Seal with a red outer ring containing the words 'State of Colorado' at the top and '1876' at the bottom. The ring is bordered by small blue stars. Inside the center shield, the top section shows a snow-capped mountain range, and the bottom section has crossed tools: a pickaxe and sledgehammer. Below the shield is a banner with the Latin motto 'Nil Sine Numine' meaning 'Nothing without providence.' Above the shield is a Roman fasces symbolizing governance, with the words 'Union and Constitution,' and an eye enclosed in a triangle, representing the Eye of Providence, radiating light."

Attendance is an essential part of our state required October Count.  The 2024 STATE COUNT DAY is Tuesday, October 1st.  It is super important that we have strong attendance on this day! Our state requires us to confirm our enrollment through this count process. Please help us by helping your student get to school on time on October 1st (and every day!).

Parent/Teacher Conferences Image Description:

The background is a green chalkboard with the words "Parent/Teacher Conferences" written in white, resembling chalk handwriting.
In the foreground, there is a stack of books on the right side of a wooden desk. A red apple sits on top of the stack.
To the left of the books, there is a cup filled with colorful pencils.
The image conveys the theme of education and communication between parents and teachers.

Science Olympiad Logo Description:

Across the globe, the words "Science Olympiad" are written in bold, uppercase, green letters.
Beneath the globe and title, the tagline reads "Exploring the World of Science" in a smaller, italicized green font.
The logo conveys a sense of global learning and scientific exploration.

The logo features a fierce, detailed tiger's face at the center, surrounded by an orange and black circular design. The tiger has a powerful expression, with sharp eyes and bold stripes on its face. Behind the tiger's head are vertical black stripes, creating a background that highlights the tiger's presence. Surrounding the central design, there is a border with the word "BASKETBALL" at the bottom and Erie Middle School at the top, indicating that the logo represents a basketball team, possibly with a tiger as its mascot. The orange and black color scheme adds intensity and energy to the design.

Gifted and Talented Referrals

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic and/or talent areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress.  In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.

Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.

The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please reach out to the grade level GT representative.

Thank you for everything you do to communicate regarding your child’s absences. We have a lot of traffic in and out of our main office during the school day so we have procedure in place to be more efficient and smooth for our students and families.

We strongly encourage you to fill out this google form ahead of time to expedite the pick up process. This not only helps the front office staff, but helps you get in and out quickly.  We make every effort to call your student up to the office 5 minutes before the time you put on the form so they are ready to go when you get to school. If you arrive before your student makes it up to the front office, we will have you wait for them in the first lobby.

When a student is coming into school late, you can sign them in ahead of time OR they can sign themselves in when they come into the office.  You can drop them off, make sure they get in the front doors, and we will take it from there. When dropping off your student, there is no need for you to come into the front office with your child.

We understand that sometimes you will not be able to sign your student out until you arrive at the school. In this case, we have posted a QR code in the first lobby and have added chairs for your convenience.  Please remember to bring your ID each time you pick up your student.  If an ID check is needed, we will have you step into the front office. After that ID check we will have you wait for your student in the first lobby. We will have them meet you there as they come through the front office.

We have many times that the person picking up doesn’t know our procedures. Please share this information with your spouse, significant other, grandparents, siblings or anyone else that may be picking up your student.

As a reminder, always get a note from any type of appointment your student has for attendance purposes.

If your student is absent for a full day, you have 48 hours to call in with the reason for the absence, after that it will be marked unexcused. Per board policy, if a student is absent 10 days excused or not, absences will begin to be marked “unexcused” unless previously noted and approved by school administration or there is a doctor’s note provided to the school.

Extended Absences: Please notify the school at least 2 weeks prior to any extended absences via our Google form. You and your student will also need to sign off on our “Extended Absence Form” located in our front office. This form helps students and parents understand how to communicate with teachers and make up schoolwork after the absence.
