Hello Tiger Families!

I want to send a heartfelt thank you on behalf of staff and PTO! We had a VERY successful fundraiser this fall, and we are thrilled to announce that we officially met our school-wide goal…plus some!

We raised $42,363.95! This is incredible! This funding will go towards classroom supplies, school-wide improvement initiatives, student events, furniture upgrades, and MORE!

Both 6th and 7th grade met their grade level goal — so 6th grade teachers will serve lunch soon AND Mr. Tomasek will eat 3 live earthworms. And because we met our school-wide goal, I will be driving a power wheels car around all day. We are working on scheduling all those fun celebrations! I bought my power wheels hot pink jeep on Facebook Marketplace this weekend. It is converted to run off of drill batteries…so it should have lots of power, let’s just hope I don’t break the axles too soon to have some fun!

Advisory winners are: Mrs. Goodman (6th), Mrs. Fenster (7th), and Mrs. Simms (8th), and the overall winner is Mrs. Fenster!

We held our drawing for all of our fun prizes on Friday, and we will be working over the next several weeks to get all the students connected with their prizes/experiences.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Just a reminder about conferences! 

We have two remaining Parent/Teacher Conferences at Erie Middle School.  October, 7th and 9th from  3:20 to 7:30 p.m.   

All Conferences are in person this fall and need to be scheduled through our online Meet the Teacher Scheduler. 

  1. Conference time slots are 5-10 minutes in duration depending on the teacher. Your schedule will indicate the time of each conference slot.  
  2. All teachers have a dinner break from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. and no conferences can be scheduled during this time.
  3. The Meet the Teacher Online Scheduler is open and will and will close on Wednesday, October 9th at noon.                                                   
  4. Meet the Teacher does not recognize punctuation marks such as a dash or apostrophe in parent or student names.   So please enter names without punctuation.
  5. You can schedule your conferences all on one night or a combination of nights.  Please do not schedule more than one conference with each of your student’s teachers.
  6. Our school counselors do have conference slots available for parents who would like to meet with them.  6th grade parents should sign up for Mr. Villlareal if their student is on the ORANGE team and Mrs. Solar for the WHITE team.  Mrs. Solar is the counselor for all 7th graders and Mr. Villareal is the counselor for all 8th graders. 

Tips for Scheduling Parent/Teacher Conferences:

  1.  Please read the directions on how to use the Meet the Teacher Online Scheduler before booking your appointments.
  2. Please set up conferences first with classes that are more of a priority, based on your student’s performance in that class.
  3. When booking conferences, do not schedule conferences back-to-back as you will need to allow time to travel between classrooms.  If the above dates do not work for you to meet with teachers, please contact the teacher directly via email.  Click here for a list of teacher emails.
  4. Have you set up an Infinite Campus Parent portal to review your student’s grades?  If not, please contact our registrar, Ann Cisar at [email protected]
  5. No conferences will be scheduled with Advisory teachers.

2024 CMAS reports will be available for parents to pick up in the main Lobby area during Conferences.

Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

Standard Response Protocol (SRP) Overview for Parents and Guardians This document explains the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which uses common language to respond to various emergency situations at schools. The SRP includes five key actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Each action is associated with a specific directive and procedure. 1. Hold: “In Your Classroom or Area” Students are trained to: Clear hallways and remain in their area. Continue business as usual. Adults and staff are trained to: Close and lock doors. Account for students and adults. Continue business as usual. 2. Secure: “Get Inside. Lock Outside Doors” Students are trained to: Return inside the building. Continue business as usual. Adults and staff are trained to: Lock outside doors. Account for students and adults. Continue business as usual. 3. Lockdown: “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” Students are trained to: Move away from sight. Maintain silence. Not open the door. Adults and staff are trained to: Recover students from hallways. Lock doors, turn off lights, and remain out of sight. Prepare to evade or defend if necessary. 4. Evacuate: “To a Location” Students are trained to: Leave items behind if necessary. Follow instructions. Adults and staff are trained to: Lead students to an evacuation location. Account for everyone. Report injuries using a Red Card/Green Card method. 5. Shelter: “State Hazard and Safety Strategy” Hazards might include: Tornado, Hazmat, Earthquake, Tsunami. Safety strategies might include: Evacuating to a shelter area, sealing the room, dropping and covering, or moving to higher ground. Students and staff are trained in appropriate strategies depending on the hazard.
Standard Response Protocol (SRP) – Parent Guidance In the event of a live incident, parents may have questions about their role. The SRP outlines important information regarding Secure and Lockdown situations. Secure: “Get Inside, Lock Outside Doors” Secure is initiated when there is something dangerous outside the building. Students and staff are brought inside, and outside doors are locked. Inside, everything continues as usual. Should parents come to the school during a Secure event? Probably not. Classes continue as usual, and parents may be asked to stay off-campus during the event. What if parents need to pick up their student? It may not be safe to release students during a Secure event. When the situation is resolved, the release method may change to a monitored or controlled release. Will parents be notified when a school goes into Secure? Parents may not be notified for brief or non-violent Secure events. For longer or more serious events, parents will be notified. Lockdown: “Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” Lockdown is called when there is a dangerous threat inside or very close to the school. Students and staff are trained to lock doors, turn off lights, and stay out of sight. Should parents come to the school during a Lockdown? No. Law enforcement will manage the situation, and parents won’t have access to the school. If parents are already at the school, they will also be instructed to Lockdown. Should parents text their students? Communication between parents and students may be limited. Students may not be able to respond safely during the initial phase of the Lockdown. What about unannounced drills? Schools may conduct unannounced drills to simulate real responses. Parents should understand that students are informed after the drill begins. Can parents observe or participate in the drills? Yes, parents are welcome to observe or participate.

Thank you for everything you do to communicate regarding your child’s absences. We have a lot of traffic in and out of our main office during the school day so we have procedure in place to be more efficient and smooth for our students and families.

PICK UP

We strongly encourage you to fill out this google form ahead of time to expedite the pick up process. This not only helps the front office staff, but helps you get in and out quickly.  We make every effort to call your student up to the office 5 minutes before the time you put on the form so they are ready to go when you get to school. If you arrive before your student makes it up to the front office, we will have you wait for them in the first lobby.

DROP OFF

When a student is coming into school late, you can sign them in ahead of time OR they can sign themselves in when they come into the office.  You can drop them off, make sure they get in the front doors, and we will take it from there. When dropping off your student, there is no need for you to come into the front office with your child.

We understand that sometimes you will not be able to sign your student out until you arrive at the school. In this case, we have posted a QR code in the first lobby and have added chairs for your convenience.  Please remember to bring your ID each time you pick up your student.  If an ID check is needed, we will have you step into the front office. After that ID check we will have you wait for your student in the first lobby. We will have them meet you there as they come through the front office.

We have many times that the person picking up doesn’t know our procedures. Please share this information with your spouse, significant other, grandparents, siblings or anyone else that may be picking up your student.

As a reminder, always get a note from any type of appointment your student has for attendance purposes.

If your student is absent for a full day, you have 48 hours to call in with the reason for the absence, after that it will be marked unexcused. Per board policy, if a student is absent 10 days excused or not, absences will begin to be marked “unexcused” unless previously noted and approved by school administration or there is a doctor’s note provided to the school.

Extended Absences

Extended Absences: Please notify the school at least 2 weeks prior to any extended absences via our Google form. You and your student will also need to sign off on our “Extended Absence Form” located in our front office. This form helps students and parents understand how to communicate with teachers and make up schoolwork after the absence.
